How To Prepare for Your Long Island Wedding Engagement Photo Session

As the leading wedding photographers and videographers on Long Island, we often ask how couples can best prepare for their photo engagement session. Here's everything you should take into consideration in order to prepare.

What should we wear? That is the number one question we get about engagement sessions! Obviously, you want to look your best, and you want your outfits to complement your photos. So, here’s what we tell every single client. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS HOLY….DO NOT MATCH. I mean, unless you were going for that 1992 look. Instead of matching, complement! Pick a color pallet that complements each other and go with that. Try to stay away from super bright colors, or any loud patterns. We suggest this for a few reasons. Loud patterns are very distracting in an image, drawing the attention away from the subjects. Bright colors do a fantastic job of not only distracting from the rest of the image, but it also casting a nice shade of whatever color you are wearing onto your skin. I mean, who doesn’t want a neon pink chin, ya know? Feeling feisty? Bring 2 outfits. Lots of people chose to do 1 fancy and 1 casual. We usually recommend doing your fancy outfit first. But to be honest, the only reasoning behind that is that high heels suck and it feels really good to take them off and get into something comfy, LOL!

Is there a location that has a special meaning? Do you love bowling? Cafes? The beach? Think outside the box! The whole reason you hired us was to capture YOUR story. If there’s a place that’s a part of your story, we want to be there. But don't worry, if you don’t have anywhere special in mind, we always have a million places we could recommend.

You don't have to feel uncomfortable during your engagement session. It's important to enjoy it and relax. The engagement session is meant for us to get to know each other, to unwind, and have some fun in front of the camera. Take a deep breath and know that the first 5-10 minutes is when we shake all our nerves out and warm up. After that, it’s party time. We want to capture who YOU are…so have fun! If you feel yourself feeling uncomfortable or posing too much for the camera, tell your photographer you need a minute to shake it out. And then literally SHAKE…IT…OUT! We will even do it with you!
